Ashkelon Mayor Tomer Glam instructed to open the bomb shelters in the southern city on Monday amid fears of rocket fire from the Gaza Strip.
City hall said that "although we did not receive any official instruction to do so, we decided to act as a precautionary measure."
Rocket sirens blared in Ashkelon Sunday night as two projectiles were fired at the southern city from the Gaza Strip. The Iron Dome missile defense system intercepted one of the rockets and the second one fell in an open field.
