The uncle of Tsachi Idan, a hostage killed in Hamas captivity, said Friday that his death had shattered his hopes for the country’s ability to bring back those still held in Gaza.
“Although you are now home, I want to apologize to you for not bringing you back alive or shouting loudly enough in inattentive ears,” Yigal Idan said at the funeral. “We are sorry that our country forgot you and did not know how to return you on time.”
Idan was kidnapped on Oct. 7 from Kibbutz Nahal Oz. His remains were returned to Israel on Thursday alongside those of three other hostages killed in captivity.
