Defense Minister Benny Gantz said Monday that the normalization agreements Israel and Arab nations signed last year, dubbed the Abraham Accords, were able to materialize thanks to his and his Blue & White party's push to pull out of a past plan to annex West Bank lands.
"The fact that we prevented a unilateral move of annexation allowed the vision of the Abraham Accords to materialize," Gantz said during a Knesset event for the promotion and implementation of the U.S.-brokered agreements.
"I am very happy that these peace agreements have been signed, and I am sure that they will be expanded and will be an engine of change in the Middle East."
