Syria appoints first woman to head central bank

Syria's new leadership has appointed Maysa Sabrin as the head of the country’s Central Bank, making her the first woman to lead the institution in its 70-year history, state sources reported Monday. Sabrin, previously deputy director of the bank, replaces Mohammad Issam Hazem, who was appointed in 2021 by former president Bashar Assad.
