Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he has decided to appoint former Navy commander, Maj. Gen. (res.) Eli Sharvit, as the next head of the Shin Bet. This was after interviewing seven candidates. Sharvit served 36 years in the IDF, five of which were as Navy commander. "In this position, he led the construction of the maritime defense force in the economic waters and managed complex operational systems against Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran," the Prime Minister's Office said. "The Shin Bet is an organization with extensive rights, which underwent a severe shake-up on October 7. The Prime Minister is convinced that Maj. Gen. Sharvit is the right person for the position."
