Three young people desecrated the Holocaust memorial at Drobytsky Yar in Ukraine on Wednesday, with two of them photographed giving Nazi salutes. Images of the incident were published on a well-known Telegram channel in Kharkiv.
The photos show two men and a woman performing Nazi salutes and stepping on a plaque that commemorates the Jews murdered at the site during the Holocaust. The Jewish Confederation of Ukraine has appealed to police and law enforcement to bring those responsible to justice.

Before the Nazi invasion, Kharkiv (Kharkov) was home to around 135,000 Jews. As German forces approached, most fled. Those who remained were taken to Drobytsky Yar and executed — about 200 to 300 people per day. By early February 1942, the ghetto was liquidated and all remaining Jews were murdered. In total, over 17,000 Jews from Kharkiv and the surrounding area were murdered during World War II.
In March 2022, weeks after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Ukrainian embassy in Israel reported that the Drobytsky Yar memorial was damaged in a Russian strike. The embassy described it as part of the Russians’ “barbaric” attacks.
