The Lebanese newspaper "Al-Akhbar", associated with Hezbollah, reported from sources that official elements in Egypt warned the Americans of "unprecedented" tension in relations with Israel, and that Cairo is "considering removing its ambassador from Tel Aviv if negotiations do not resume and the operation in Rafah continues". In addition, it was reported that Egypt's reasons for refusing to jointly manage the Rafah crossing with Israel stem from a refusal to intervene in the Palestinians' responsibility for managing their side of the crossing, and a refusal to recognize Israel's sovereignty over the crossing, which could lead to a confrontation with Hamas.
