Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer was seen at the Rome hotel where U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, was staying during the latest round of indirect nuclear talks between the United States and Iran, the Associated Press reported Saturday.
According to the AP, there was no indication that Dermer took part in the discussions, which aim to lay the groundwork for a renewed agreement curbing Iran’s nuclear capabilities in exchange for the easing of sanctions. The second round of talks recently concluded, with Oman announcing the transition to expert-level negotiations in pursuit of a "fair and lasting" deal.
Dermer, a close confidant of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and a key figure in Israel’s strategic dialogue with the U.S., has long voiced skepticism over diplomatic overtures to Tehran, aligning with Israel’s broader stance favoring increased pressure on the Iranian regime.
