France's Chief Rabbi Haim Korsia has sparked outrage after saying in a recent interview that Israel should "get the job done" in Gaza.
Speaking to French BFM TV, Korsia defended Israel's military actions, arguing that they were justified in protecting its citizens from Hamas. "It's an act of war that no country in the world would conduct like Israel is doing, and I have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of in how Israel is conducting the fighting," Korsia said. He further added, "I'm never uncomfortable with a policy that consists of defending one's citizens."
Aymeric Caron, a far-left deputy in the French parliament who has previously faced accusations of antisemitism, condemned Korsia's remarks, describing them as a justification for "genocide in Gaza."
Caron said that he had lodged a complaint with French prosecutors, emphasizing that "supporting genocide and crimes against humanity are criminal offenses" that could result in up to five years in prison and a 40,000 euro fine.
