Bank of Israel: No plan to cancel 200 shekel banknote

The Bank of Israel commented on reports about the possibility that the 200 shekel bank note would be canceled, stating that this "is not on the agenda." It also noted that "the authority to cancel bank notes according to law belongs to the governor of the Bank of Israel. Despite raising the issue, the governor was not presented with sufficient professional justification for canceling this or that note. The governor of the Bank of Israel does not intend to exercise his authority and act to cancel any note or to change the mix of bills in circulation. We emphasize that the 200 shekel note in circulation, like the other bills and coins, will continue to be used as normal."
