Israel is readying a powerful response should it face retaliation following the assassination of Hezbollah's top commander Fuad Shukr, a senior official said on Wednesday.
"We are certainly preparing for a strong response in the event of an attack. The international community, led by the U.S., is making significant efforts behind the scenes to prevent a regional war," the official said.
"The Americans have made it clear through the secretary of defense that they will support Israel if attacked. British Foreign Secretary David Lammy is expected to arrive in Beirut tomorrow. Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz is pushing for the implementation of Resolution 1701 for Hezbollah's withdrawal as a way to prevent war."
