UN chief welcomes cease-fire agreement

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the cease-fire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, saying that he "hopes that an agreement can put an end to the violence, destruction and suffering experienced by the residents of both countries. I call on the parties to fully respect and quickly implement all the commitments they have undertaken as part of the agreement and take immediate steps for the full implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701." Guterres added that "the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon (UNSCOL) and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) are both ready to support the implementation of the agreement, in accordance with their mandates."
