Italy's far-left escalates anti-Israel campaign with blacklist of Jews and Zionists

Far-left coalition in Italy calls for boycott of Israel, issuing blacklist of individuals and companies allegedly linked to country; notice raises concerns of possible retaliation, as similar rhetoric had targeted media outlets before

On August 22, 2024, the Italian branch of the New Communist Party (NPC), together with the Arab-Palestinian Democratic Union (UDAP) and CARC Communist Resistance Support Committee (Comitato di Supporto alla Resistenza Comunista), issued a 24-page long public notice (notice no. 145) calling for the boycott of Israel and the fight against the Zionists in Italy.
The extremist formation published a list with Italian and Israeli companies, as well as Italian Jewish and non-Jewish politicians, academics, diplomats, journalists and activists, all accused of being “Zionists” and “on Israel's payroll.”

While the notice does not explicitly call for physical attacks, it still exposes the people on the list to possible violent retaliation. In addition, it is worth recalling that on August 4, 2024, during an event hosted in the province of Pisa and organized by CARC, one of the main speakers, Gabriele Rubini, said:
"The primary culprits and targets of the continental resistance in support of the Palestinian people are journalists. They must be afraid to go to work every day, they must fear for the safety of their sons and daughters… If there was a general global movement it should attack the media first."
It must be said that notice no. 145 makes a clear reference to that same August 4 event, indicated as “Celebration of Popular Resurgence" (Festa della Riscossa Popolare) as part of the initiative "With Palestine that resists until victory" during which a representative of the Arab Palestinian Democratic Union residing in Naples, originally from Nazareth, and known as "Maisa" publicly stated, “October 7 for us Palestinians, is a day that we claim with our heads held high and we say it calmly, we are not afraid to say it."
On August 25, the CARC website published a long notice, once again praising the NPC statement and the blacklist for having reached its objective of exposing the Zionists and added, “We must oust Meloni and impose a government that is willing to take the necessary measures to address the most serious effects of the crisis, the Popular Bloc Government."
This is, indeed, an incitement to subvert the democratic order and it’s a very concerning statement.
In addition, CARC has recently announced a new “Celebration of Popular Resurgence” to be held in Milan on September 27 and 28. Once again, the Arab-Palestinian Democratic Union and Gabriele Rubini will be speaking at an initiative entitled “…with the Palestinian resistance."
CARC and NPC are both part of the "Popular Bloc Government" project that aims to establish a communist regime in Italy.
The acronym CARC began to be heard between 1990 and 1992 after the previous National Coordination of Committees against Repression (CCR, 1980) and Editorial Staff for Social Relations (1985).
As indicated on CARC’s website, some of their members left the committee in 1999 and formed the Preparatory Commission of the founding congress of the (new) Italian Communist Party (NPC).
According to the Commission, “the New Communist Party must be built from clandestinity, as a party that does not base its existence on the margin of freedom of political action that the imperialist bourgeoisie deems it appropriate to allow the popular masses, but on its capacity to exist and operate despite the attempts of the bourgeoisie to eliminate it. Clandestine party committees of the (new) PCI must be established everywhere.”
While CARC members publicly show their faces and present a list of offices, NPC operates clandestinely, and on its website indicates how to communicate with them anonymously. The NPC’s physical address corresponds to a post office in the Paris district of Ile-de-France.
It is very plausible that members of NPC are, at the same time, active members in CARC and other Italian far-left groups.

Regarding the Arab-Palestinian Democratic Union, the organization has been operating for many years on Italian soil and closely works with the far-left extra-parliamentary groups and the anarchists. Among them, CARC, Rete dei Comunisti (Communist Network, with links to the Venezuelan regime), USB – Unione Sindacale di Base (Basic Syndicate Union), Potere al Popolo (Power to the People) and Rivoluzione Anarchica (Anarchist Revolution).
UDAP is mainly active through the work of Rajeh Zayed (secretary), Shoukri Hroub, and “Maisa”.
On December 7, 2023, NPC published another statement (No. 30/2023 “Mobilize against the media that are complicit and abet the crimes of the Zionist State of Israel! Develop solidarity with the heroic Palestinian resistance”) that included a list of Italian media groups, TV channels and newspapers accused of being “imperialist”, siding with Israel and of complicity in the “genocide against the Palestinians." Unlike statement no. 145, that list did not include names of individuals (Jews and friends of Israel) or Israeli companies.
In Italy, as in Europe, the phenomenon of collaboration between Palestinian terrorism and far-left groups is long-standing, dating back to the 1960s. The ongoing intense activity of pro-Hamas Islamist groups must not lead to the phenomenon being underestimated.
The current presence of a far-left pro-Palestinian network spread across the Italian territory and formed by various groups, coordinated with each other, that reached the point of spreading blacklists, is a serious matter of concern as the phenomenon risks expanding and leading to violent actions against Jewish, Israeli and pro-Israeli targets.
