On Tuesday, an Oregon man was charged for threatening to explode bombs at Jewish hospitals in New York City and Long Island, driven by antisemitic motives, according to the Eastern District of New York prosecutor.
Breon Peace, the United States attorney for the Eastern District of New York, announced that Domagoj Patkovic, 31, from Portland, Oregon was accused of conspiring with others "motivated by their hatred of Jewish people." Patkovic "targeted Jewish hospitals and care centers in New York City and on Long Island with hoax bomb threats, needlessly endangering patients and staff by creating chaos and alarm," he said.
Patkovic made at least six threatening phone calls between May and September 2021, targeting hospitals and local law enforcement agencies. He even live-streamed one of these calls on the social media platform Discord.
Although no bombs or explosive devices were discovered at any of the sites, local police conducted searches in several instances due to the perceived threat. In at least one case, a bomb threat resulted in the partial evacuation of a Jewish hospital in Long Island.
If found guilty, Patkovic could face up to 155 years in prison. Despite having no prior convictions, he has been linked to similar past incidents involving threats to detonate explosives.
