A U.S. federal judge ruled Friday that the Trump administration must halt efforts to dismantle the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson in Washington issued a preliminary injunction, ordering the administration to reinstate and preserve agency contracts, retain data, and protect agency employees' ability to perform legally required work. The administration had been sued by a federal employee union, challenging what it said were sweeping efforts to lay off huge amounts of agency staff and effectively eradicate the watchdog.
