Housing and Construction Minister Yitzchak Goldknopf resigned from his position as a minister in the Prime Minister’s Office on Monday, citing a viral video of him dancing at his nephew’s wedding that sparked backlash over chants for ultra-Orthodox draft dodging. Goldknopf will retain his role as Housing Minister.
The video, filmed at the wedding, showed Goldknopf surrounded by ultra-Orthodox attendees dancing and singing, “We do not believe in the government of the heretics.” The lyrics drew criticism for appearing to contradict his government role.
