Steve Bannon, former adviser to President Donald Trump, accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of trying to pressure Trump into launching a military strike on Iran.
Referring to a recent exchange in which Trump was asked whether he had “waived off” an Israeli plan to attack Iranian forces, Bannon said the New York Times report accurately reflected Netanyahu's attempts to sway U.S. policy. “It’s the arrogance of essentially Bibi forcing his way here twice,” Bannon said. “They’re trying to say, ‘Hey, we have these battle plans ready to go and we’ve knocked their air defenses out and we have to go.’ And he came over and did it again.”
Bannon said Trump ultimately resisted the pressure, telling Netanyahu that negotiations with Iran were already underway.
