The U.S. State Department has approved the sale of combat systems and upgrades to tactical vessels for the Egyptian Navy, in a deal estimated at $625 million. In addition, Egypt will purchase a long-range AN/TPS-78 radar system for $304 million, which will enhance its ability to identify aerial threats. The total military equipment that Egypt will purchase is estimated at $929 million, and the U.S. State Department said that the deals will strengthen Egypt's military capabilities "without harming the regional balance of power."
