Knesset member Sharren Haskel revealed on Wednesday that her grandmother, an 88-year-old Jewish woman, was assaulted by Muslims in Sarcelles, a northern suburb of Paris. According to reports in the country, the attackers called at the woman, "Dirty Jew," "Dirty old woman," and "You deserve it."
"My 88-year-old grandmother was attacked by Arab thugs, and I have no faith the French authorities can handle it," she wrote on her X account. "The Israeli government must wake up and lead the fight against rising antisemitism; Jewish communities worldwide are an inseparable part of us, and we have a great responsibility toward them."
Haskel added, "I call on Diaspora Jews - like my grandmother - to come to their national, cultural, and historical home. We have only one home."
France saw a sharp increase in the number of antisemitic incidents since the war broke out on October 7. Two months ago, a survey in the country revealed 61% of French Jews have fallen victim to antisemitic acts, under the pretext that they are "responsible or guilty of Israeli government policy."
The survey added that 44% of Jewish individuals hide their identity in public, with 80% not reporting the incidents because they don't believe the police or judicial system will handle the matter properly.
