The Health Ministry is investigating 10 new cases in the country of a "violent" offshoot of the COVID-19 delta variant, Channel 13 News reported Thursday evening.
The 10 cases of the AY.3 strain were detected on Thursday in eight people returning from abroad and two infected in Israel.
Delta plus variants have a mutation in their spike protein also found in the Beta and Gamma variants that may help to evade antibodies. A report by the Indian Council of Medical Research found that AY.3 is potentially better at skirting the immune system.
