Syria strikes meant to prevent arrival of Iran, Iraq forces, weapons

Both airports were put out of commission after IDF strike included more munitions than used against 100 Hamas targets in Gaza overnight

Israel on Sunday attacked the airports in Damascus and Aleppo amid real concern that forces and precision weaponry from Iran and Iraq were set to arrive and be deployed in Syria and Lebanon. The coordinated attacks caused damage to runways and put both airports out of commission.

It was the second time that Israel attacked the airports. Syrian media said a similar strike targeting a number of areas simultaneously, was carried out by Israel 10 days prior, against transports of advanced weapons to Lebanon. The UK-based Observatory for Human Rights, a Syria opposition group, said the airports had been rendered out of commission.

A Syrian official then said Israel was attempting to distract from the crimes it was committing in Gaza and the casualties it had sustained by the Palestinian resistance. Another attack on Aleppo came two days later after projectiles fired in Syria, landed in the Golan Heights.
