Polish artist sparks outrage after equating Israel with Nazis at Auschwitz

Igor Dobrowolski films himself outside Auschwitz with sign comparing Gaza war to Nazi atrocities; Palestinian human rights activist says ‘appalled’; 'Holocaust memorials or concentration camps are not stages for political stunts'

A Polish artist’s protest against Israel, staged at Auschwitz-Birkenau where over one million Jews were murdered during the Holocaust, has sparked outrage.
Anti-Israel demonstrator Igor Dobrowolski stood outside the former Nazi concentration camp last week holding a sign that read: "Israel created the largest death camp in history" and "Israel is doing to the Palestinians what the Germans did to the Jews."

Dobrowolski, wearing a Palestinian flag, described his action as a "silent protest in front of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camps" and claimed, "The greatest way to honor Holocaust victims is to actively oppose such crimes today or in the future. Turning a blind eye to current genocide while visiting former concentration camps dishonors Holocaust victims."
Palestinian-Christian human rights activist Inhab Hassan, whose video of Dobrowolski's protest outside Auschwitz has garnered 1.6 million views, condemned the artist's actions.
"As a Palestinian, I am appalled," Hassan wrote. "Holocaust memorials or concentration camps are not stages for political stunts. If you stand with us, do so without exploiting the memory of one of humanity's greatest tragedies. Stop using our flag and suffering to shield your antisemitism."
Israeli Ambassador to Poland Dr. Yacov Livne, responded with a single word: "Despicable."
