Against the background of the attack on Maccabi Tel Aviv fans in Amsterdam after the game against Ajax on Thursday, pro-Palestinian Hamas supporters shared videos of an attack on an Ultra-Orthodox boy from two weeks ago. The video was shared on Monday to stand with the attackers in Amsterdam.
In one of the videos, a 14-year-old Ultra-Orthodox boy is seen being attacked by Muslim rioters in the Jewish neighborhood in Antwerp. The boy's family did not file a complaint with the police, because such attacks happen occasionally. But since this time the videos were published by the attackers, who don't seem to be particularly afraid, the family decided to file a complaint with the police.
These videos were published amid announcements made by the Antwerp police, which said that six young Muslims who were planning to attack Jews were arrested on Monday. Nevertheless, after a few hours the young Muslims were released. The six planned to attack Jews as a sign of solidarity with the attackers in Amsterdam.
MP Michael Freilich, who was also recently elected to the Antwerp City Council, told the local media that he demands an increase in police forces. According to him, he spoke with the mayor and also asked for reinforcements of soldiers to protect the Jewish residents.
The member of parliament said there have been several attacks against Jews recently. However, the footage has only been published now, and it is important to spread the word so that the authorities deal with the violence directed against Jews.
Freilich said to the mayor that if the situation worsens, we would see soldiers on the street. Meanwhile, the police are making major efforts to deal with the problem, a police drone hovered over the Jewish neighborhoods, and over 100 additional policemen were stationed in Jewish neighborhoods.
Freilich called for harsher punishment for attackers, to deter others. He also called on the police to arrest a Muslim preacher in Brussels who called his followers to "burn Jews", but so far nothing has been done.
