The speaker of Lebanon's parliament, Nabih Berri, said on Wednesday the war with Israel had been the "most dangerous phase" his country had endured in its history, hours after a cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah came into effect. He also said that "Lebanon succeeded in thwarting the effects of Israeli aggression." According to him, "We need national unity among the people, and we thank everyone who contributed to the cease-fire. I appeal to everyone to keep Lebanon strong and united, and call for a quick election of a president. This is a test for all of us." He added: "I call on all Lebanese to return to their land - even if it is ruins."
