Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the "sharply escalated" situation in Syria in a phone with his Turkish counterpart Tayyip Erdogan, the Kremlin said on Tuesday. Putin stressed the need to end aggression against the Syrian state, including leveraging Ankara's capabilities, it said in a statement, and both leaders noted the importance of further close coordination between Russia, Turkey and Iran on the matter. "The two presidents will continue to be in contact with each other in the context of seeking steps to de-escalate the crisis," the statement said.
