Columbia University in New York announced, in a precedent-setting decision, that it was suspending the activities of the organizations "Students for Justice in Palestine" (SJP) and "Jewish Voice for Peace" (JVP) on its campus, following pro-Palestinian demonstrations that included "threatening rhetoric and intimidation." According to Gerald Rosberg, the university's vice president and chairman of the Special Committee on Campus Safety, "The decision was made after both groups repeatedly violated university policies related to holding campus events, culminating in an unauthorized event on Thursday afternoon that went ahead despite warnings." Behind the pro-Palestinian protests across the U.S. Last week, Brandeis University announced a similar move. (Daniel Edelson, New York)
