Massachusetts authorities last week arrested Edwin Guerro, a man who frequently called for the murder of Jews and expressed support for Hamas on social media was arrested and charged with eight serious offenses.
One of the charges detailed how Guerro threatened to murder Florida State Representative Randy Fine and his children due to their Jewish heritage. Fine, the only representative from the Republic party in the state legislature, shared screenshots of Guerro's threats which included "specific" and "immanent" threats sent from a foreign country.
Authorities suspect Guerro didn’t just make general hate statements against Jews but targeted Fine directly, sending him threatening messages including a photo of a loaded gun with the caption: " Looks like I’m taking a little field trip to Brevard County Florida let’s play a game."
In another message, Guerro shared an image from Hamas-affiliated networks showing terrorists standing over one of the victims from the October 7 attack, writing: "This is gonna be Randy very soon, see you in Florida!"
Three days after the threats were sent, Guerro was arrested by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in cooperation with local police forces from Massachusetts and Florida as he attempted to enter the U.S.
He faces multiple serious charges, including written or electronic threats to kill while evidencing prejudice and unlawful use of a two-way communication device. If convicted, he could face up to 175 years in prison. The police didn’t provide information about Guerro's country of origin.
Fine, known as a leading legislator in the fight against antisemitism and a staunch supporter of Israel, spoke after Guerro’s arrest, calling the case a warning to anyone wishing to harm Jews in Florida.
" Muslim Terror is real and it exists in Florida," he said. "As a Jewish lawmaker who is not afraid to express his views, I face hundreds of threats and attacks every day. Most of them I take as a badge of honor, but this time it was different. This threat was concrete and imminent."
Fine said that "within moments" of contacting security forces, he had around-the-clock security at his home, for which he said he "will be eternally grateful." He added, " Florida is not New York or Washington, where no one ever seems to be held responsible for attacking Jews. Let Guerro’s arrest make one thing clear – in Florida, if you ‘f’ around, you’re going to find out.”
