US lawmakers to Macron: 'Call to halt arms sales to Israel encourages Iran'

Eighteen U.S. lawmakers sent a scathing letter to French President Emmanuel Macron, in which they made it clear that they are deeply troubled by his call for an end to arms sales to Israel. They emphasized that Iran also threatens the security of the United States and France, and made it clear that Paris must support Israel's efforts to eradicate terrorism, protect its citizens and return the 101 hostages held in Gaza. The lawmakers urged Macron to reconsider his position, and focus on diplomatic efforts to strengthen security and democracy in the Middle East. "Your call to halt arms shipments to Israel will further encourage Iran and its proxies to escalate their attacks against Israel," they wrote.
