Let's start from the end. The battle has begun; this is not a drill - Certain and imminent danger of the collapse of Israeli democracy is upon us.
Bad things happen when good civilians stay silent. Every citizen must ask him/herself - Where do I stand in this battle? Every citizen must be honest with him/herself, and act upon the answer.
For many of us, fighting this battle will be amongst the most important things we do in our lives.
There still stands a thin layer of gatekeepers between us, the civilians, and this battle. I still don't know, as I'm writing this, how things will play out. It is very likely that every turn of events will lead us to a clash.
It will certainly be chaotic. There will be widespread protests throughout the country - on the streets, in workplaces, university campuses.
As we speak, sparks of collective will, determination, and unity are being ignited. If we get pushed over the edge, fire will break out. And if attempts to dismantle the Israeli Declaration of Independence persist, its flames will grow and spread.
The day a million citizens take to the streets, this government will crumble.
I don't know how long it will take, or how much harm will be done on the way. What I do know is that at the end of the day - we will prevail.
The same has happened in other nations, and the result has almost always been that lovers of man and supporters of liberty have prevailed, even when facing dark dictatorships. But dictatorships are not deposed in the ballot boxes.
It is always darkest before dawn. I know we will win this battle because we are on the right side of history, the honest side. When pushed to the edge, we know how to fight. We know why and what we must fight for, and be able to overcome fear or concern. As a unified force, we'll come together in these hard times, and be victorious.
Now back to the beginning.
Shortly after the government was sworn in, it began demanding everything, immediately. Not a reform that perhaps promotes needed change to the judicial system, but a mission to burn it to the ground; Not adjustments to the police conduct, but a political takeover of the force by an extremist himself charged for 53 crimes and convicted of eight.; Not a needed reminder of our values and morals, but an invitation for corruption, racism, and homophobia.
A prime minister under indictment wants to appoint a panel of judges ahead of his appeal, and clear the way for the thrice-convicted corrupt minister, to control the national purse.
Amongst the governmental officials are racist ministers given access to matters of defense and security who will ignite the conflict between us and the Palestinians, turning it into a religious war between Judaism and Islam.
A homophobe will decide our children's education and a fundamentalist minister who had already suggested that medical treatment could be denied on the basis of religion, sexual orientation, or skin color, is part of the government, while another member of the coalition demands the arrest of political opponents.
Blacklists are already being compiled to weed out any who do not align with the new regime and disciples of the prime minister, take practical steps refusing service to those on the left, or ban them from public trains.
Anti-government
This does not represent the will of the people, many of those who supported Netanyahu have said as much. But once the elections were over, the ruse was exposed.
This is an alliance of corrupt individuals serving their own interests, racists who blackmailed the corrupt to advance their messianic delusions.
The whole lot of them, from the prime minister down to every single one of the ministers - are neck-deep in lies and manipulative tactics.
Netanyahu is weak and susceptible to blackmail, a serial liar himself. When addressing the world, in his polished English, lauds his brave efforts on behalf of democracy, But when speaking Hebrew, says the opposite.
This government was legally and democratically elected. Its actions, however, strip it of its legitimacy. Our duty, as citizens, is to join the fight for the sake of the future, our values, equality, unity, honor, rights, and freedom of our people and homeland.
A democracy must know how to defend itself against those who use elections to ruin the country from within.
This is the given situation. We must process it, and understand that we are talking about a regime-led revolution, nothing less.
And may I remind everyone - this is not a drill. We must act.
