The truth may be unpleasant but Israel's wars in Gaza and Lebanon did not affect the results of the U.S. presidential elections or for either legislative bodies. The polls say that President-elect Trump won due to the issue of illegal immigration.
I traveled to several public rallies. When the subject of Israel was brought up by those in attendance, the speakers brushed it away and carried on with their speech. Any mention of our security did not have some deeper meaning, it was simply said for the record.
After the vote, data showed that only 1% to 1.5% of the voters considered the war in Gaza and Lebanon when voting. Everyone else just didn't care. The indifference was reflected in the voting patterns of Jews and Muslims: Both communities voted in almost identical percentages for Harris (about two-thirds) and Trump (about one-third), except for a few negligible neighborhoods and towns with predominately ultra-Orthodox Jewish or Muslim populations.

These facts are difficult for far-left Americans to digest, after taking on the protest against Israel as their life-long mission. The far-left narrative claimed that Harris would have won if she had condemned Israel's war crimes and promised to ban the sale of American weapons to Israel. However, there is no proof of that and the opposite is actually true. In the UK, as soon as the Labour Party cleaned its ranks of antisemitic elements, it defeated the Tories in the parliamentary elections held this year.
The main election issue proved to be illegal immigration. About 11 million illegal migrant workers lived in the U.S. at the beginning of 2021. According to rough estimates, an additional 5 million-6 million breached the country's borders during the President Biden administration.
Trump in his campaign raised fears of a threat to the American way of life and values. His political opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, who was in charge of immigration, failed to address the issue along with rent and food prices.
The Democrats failed to convince voters that their economy was a success while Trump and his allies told them the economy was failing. About 74 million Americans, approximately 50.7% of votes, admired his rough talk, his perceived strength, the extreme measures he promised to bring against the illegal immigrants (army, detention camps, mass deportations), and his threats to prosecute for treason the "enemies from within," referring to the progressive Democrats.
I will not pretend to predict Trump's path as president in a second term. The man is unpredictable, unstable, impulsive and creative, in the best and worst sense possible. Given his age and health, a lot depends on who will be appointed to key positions in his government. I will quote Wislawa Szymborska's poem, "Hatred," as a closing statement.
"See how efficient it still is,
how it keeps itself in shape—
our century's hatred.
How easily it vaults the tallest obstacles.
How rapidly it pounces, tracks us down."
Yes, how easily it does.
