IDF chief appoints team to review combat discipline after scholar killed in Lebanon

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi on Thursday appointed a team, led by Maj. Gen. (res.) Moti Baruch, to examine and strengthen operational discipline and military culture in combat, following the death of Maj. (res.) Ze’ev “Jabo” Erlich, who entered southern Lebanon as a civilian in violation of operational orders.
The team will provide a detailed assessment of compliance with operational orders, military protocols and unit norms on Israel’s northern and southern fronts, according to the IDF. Recommendations are expected within two weeks.
Meanwhile, the Military Police is investigating the circumstances of Erlich’s death, with findings to be reviewed by the Military Advocate General.
