The IDF held a naval drill with the U.S. 5th fleet ion the Red Sea for the first time.
The forces practiced search and rescue scenarios and defensive maneuvers in an area where maritime trading routs have been at risk.
IDF naval commander says the strategic cooperation is vital for regional security and that of the state of Israel.
"This exercise is the start of a cooperation that will grow to increase security and combat terrorism, Brig. Gen. Daniel Hagari said.
