The Shin Bet on Saturday instructed the Religious Services Ministry to increase security measures around Israel's Sephardic Chief Rabbi, Rabbi David Yosef, following threats to his life from terrorist organizations.
Security officials met with the rabbi on Saturday and briefed him on the threats, the Chief Rabbi's office said in a statement.
Rabbi Yosef recently spoke harshly against terrorists at the funeral of Sergeant Uriel Peretz earlier this week. "We face a mob that glorifies murder, that wants to kill all Jews and we stand here fighting for our lives,” he said.
“Every day over the past year and a half, we're reminded of this and we must stand and pray for all the soldiers — that this will be the last casualty, that we may live in peace and that God will exact justice upon them.”

Early last month, Rabbi David Yosef visited Joseph's Tomb in Nablus located in the Wes Bank. During the reception, he delivered a religious lesson, offering words of encouragement to the yeshiva students and Jewish residents in the area. At the entrance to Joseph's Tomb, he recited a prayer for the safety of IDF soldiers and hostages.
