An indictment for hate crimes and vandalism has been filed against a senior professor from York University in Canada, after he and 11 other people, some of them university faculty, allegedly tried to break into a bookstore owned by a Jewish woman in Toronto, defaced it with blood-red paint, and accused its owner of supporting the "genocide" Israel was perpetrating in Gaza. Professor Leslie J. Wood, who until recently chaired the university's sociology department, wrote an award-winning book on protest movements. The university did not specify if and what steps would be taken against Wood and the institution's teaching staff who are facing trial. (Daniel Edelson, New York)
