The Houthi rebels in Yemen claim that an American warship opened fire during a "reconnaissance" conducted by the Houthi force in the Red Sea. According to them, the target was their "reconnaissance plane," and one of the missiles launched exploded near a ship that belongs to the country of Gabon and was sailing in the Red Sea after leaving from Russia. It is not clear if the claim is credible, and the ship from Gabon was damaged in the incident. Their announcement comes against the backdrop of the international force that the U.S. is working to consolidate in the Red Sea, to thwart the Houthi attacks against ships, attacks that they say are intended to impose a "sea blockade" on Israel. "The Red Sea will become a burning arena if the U.S. and the other countries continue in the international naval force," the Houthis spokesman Muhammad Abd Salam said. "The countries on the shores of the Red Sea need to understand the danger that threatens their national security," he added. (Lior Ben Ari)
