The Israel Defense Forces this week presented residents of Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak with the findings of an internal investigation into the October 7 Hamas massacre that claimed the lives of eight community members.
The report was conducted by Brig. Gen. Itamar Ben Chaim, commander of the IDF’s 80th Division, and accompanied by Maj. Gen. Yaniv Asor, head of the IDF’s Manpower Directorate. Among the victims were Tal Chaimi and Lior Rodaif, members of the kibbutz’s emergency response squad, whose bodies remain held in Gaza.
Residents expressed deep appreciation for the investigation's presentation but voiced frustration with its limitations. “The kibbutz was abandoned — and only the emergency squad members bravely fought the terrorists alone,” residents said. “The report is important and appreciated, but it is an internal and partial investigation that does not provide the full picture.”
