My Romi, what do Liri's eyes tell of what you are enduring there? What do her eyes say of what all of the hostages are suffering? Liri's eyes are of a young girl caught in an unreal situation, no one could ever imagine was possible in any way.Liri's eyes show us the world has become unsafe for all of you, for a long time.
And what of our eyes? When we look in the mirror, what do our eyes say? Do our eyes show the pain? The defeat? Are they lit or is the light gone?
Over the past year we have been looking reality in the eyes. We no longer try to cover it up, to shade it for our comfort and we understand we must all deal with the inescapable truth. Our eyes seek any scrap of information, any thought, any possible way, to bring them all back, today, yesterday, last year.
Our eyes in the mirror, what do they show? Do they show us that we are doing everything we can? Do they show us we've given up? What do they really tell us? When we get up in the morning and look into the mirror, I ask all of us to look deep into our hearts, into our thoughts, into our souls and tell ourselves daily that we are really where we are.
I ask that we tell ourselves that we are not running away from reality, not running away from the responsibility, but our doing all we can as a people, as humans, to enlist our most basic values and ensure that we are doing everything to bring them all back home.
Because eyes do not lie or hide the truth and the truth is that we are not there yet. We have not arrived at the moment when we can hold ourselves in joy and say: "they are here."

We must walk our path with our eyes open and our sight clear. The path is full of recognized obstacles but is still unknown. A path laden with challenges, because to be a strong and powerful nation means to look into the eyes of people we do not know and seek the truth.
They are our brothers, within the borders of Israel and in Gaza. We must feel this truth in our hearts and know that we will never really be disconnected from each other or the physical and emotional knowledge of the suffering of others. We will never give up seeing the other in their eyes, because that is the source of our strength.
Liri's eyes tell us everything. They tell us to be strong. To get her out of there already. My reality is hell on earth, and I put my faith in you, her eyes say.
My Romi, I have not seen your beautiful smiling eyes for a year and three months.
