Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday to congratulate him on his election win. During the 20-minute conversation, Netanyahu hailed Trump’s return to the White House as “the greatest comeback in history.”
In a public statement, Netanyahu said, "Your historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America. This is a huge victory!"
According to the statement, Netanyahu was among the first leaders to call Trump. The leaders spoke warmly, with Netanyahu congratulating Trump on his election win and discussing plans for closer security cooperation, particularly regarding the Iranian threat. Netanyahu praised Trump’s “great comeback,” to which Trump responded, “Israel, too, has had a comeback with its achievements in the northern war and other fronts.”
