Report from Syria: 9 killed in attempt to arrest former Assad military officer

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a London-based opposition group to the Assad regime, reported that nine people were killed in Tartus in the west of the country as part of an attempt by local security forces to arrest a former officer in Assad's army. According to the report, gunmen opened fire on the forces, killing six, while three of the gunmen were also killed.
