Hussein al-Sheikh named as Abbas successor

After a three-day session, the Palestinian Central Council decided on Saturday to appoint Hussein al-Sheikh as the official successor to Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.
Al-Sheikh will assume the role of deputy chairman of the PLO Executive Committee, a position that also designates him as Abbas’ deputy, following the council’s approval to create the post.
