Against the backdrop of the explosions of pagers and walkie-talkies in Lebanon, Defense Minister Yoav Galant spoke with U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, the Pentagon said overnight between Wednesday and Thursday, adding that the two "reviewed regional security developments". According to the Pentagon statement, Austin expressed to Gallant the U.S.'s "unwavering" support for Israel in the face of threats from Iran, Hezbollah and Tehran's other regional partners. Austin also emphasized the commitment of the U.S. to deter Israel's enemies and to continue efforts to reduce tensions throughout the region. He also emphasized that the U.S. prefers to reach a cease-fire agreement in Gaza that would return the hostages, as well as "a lasting diplomatic solution to the conflict on the Israel-Lebanon border that would allow citizens from both sides to return to their homes."
