Holding on to words

Osnat Vishinisky's son was killed exactly a year ago; in order to commemorate his death she recorded a song, played on Israeli radio for the first time Tuesday

Osnat Vishinsky wrote a song in memory of her dead son; the song was played on Israeli radio Tuesday, exactly a year after Lior Vishinsky died near Rafah.

Lior Vishinsky died in a horrific explosion that blew his team's armored vehicle into bits and pieces. The explosion's aftershock overwhelmed the country.

Birth of a song

The well-known actress that she is, Osnat Vishinsky transformed some of her pain into lyrics, which were published in Yedioth Ahronoth and picked up by a young music student who decided to compose them.

Vishinsky was touched by the gesture.

"At first I did not want to sing it, it was too close and I thought it would be better if someone else recorded it. However, a few months later I changed my mind," she said.

"The anniversary of Lior's death come out on Memorial Day, soI thought this was a right thing to do. I recorded this song in order to commemorate Lior's death, so that they will play it and talk about it," she said.

Vishinsky said her son's death flooded her with the words. "After the incident in a weird way, I started writing endlessly. I wrote a lot and I could not stop. Something opened in my gut and the words just flooded me," she said.

Vishinsky said the song's title reflects her love to those who love her and caused her to see the horizon again after her son's death.

'To my loved ones'

"Seeds I have planted,

Plants I have planted,

My eyes have gone blind from seeing

Their growth,

Fruits they will never bear," Vishinsky sang.

"And day chases day

In my blood, ancient peacefulness

Wrapped a disoriented universe

And there is nothing new under the sun," she sang.
