Cynical, anti-democratic protests by right-wingers have pushed Orna Engel into supporting disengagement
In a special ceremony to be conducted on Thursday, residents of the settlement will give back the weapons in order to “refute rumors that this weaponry will be used in an attempt to stop the pullout,” according to one of the residents.
The weapons will be wrapped in orange ribbons, used by opponents to the disengagement to symbolize their stance across the country.
Yoram Tzrori, head of security in the settlement, told Ynet that all “weapons given to us by the army, and personal handguns, will be returned.”
“From my perspective, this means that there will no longer be security here, and the army must assume full responsibility for guarding us. But we’re returning the weapons to avoid any provocation on the part of the government or police” said Tzrori.
“Despite all the attempts to drag our name through the mud, and attempts to portray us as criminals, we are proving that we are exactly the opposite of this. We have our red lines: No blood will be spilt here, even if they push us into a corner. We won’t curse anyone and we definitely won’t lift a hand against a soldier,” he added.
