IKEA 2007 catalogue
A comparison conducted with 15 different products by the Swedish furniture company, according to the August 25 exchange rates NIS 4.39 per US dollar and 60 Agorot per Swedish Crone, showed that Israelis pay more for the same products than American and Swedish customers.
IKEA will soon launch its seventh catalogue since arriving in Israel, but it will be filled with fewer pages than the American and Swedish catalogues.
In response, IKEA CEO Israel Shlomi Gabai claims: "One has to remember that IKEA Sweden doesn't have the naval transport, taxation and storage costs that we have. The goods arrive at their stores within three days of order and can maintain a low level of inventory."
"We receive the articles within nine-14 weeks from ordering, a fact that forces us to keep a high level of valuable inventory," he added.
The price difference between Israel to America and Sweden are an average of 15-20 percent but many products have a lower percentage difference between them.
How much do you pay in Israel in comparison to abroad? A pasta cooking pot (NIS 59) is 10.5 percent more expensive than the price in Sweden and 49 percent more expensive than the price in America.
A rocking chair (NIS 65) is 57 percent more expensive than the price in Sweden and 48 percent more expensive than the price in America.
"Lack" book Shelves (NIS 595) is 10.8 percent more expensive than the Swedish price and 35.5 percent more expensive than the price in the US.
