Due to the crowdedness of the Western Wall during the Intermediate days of Sukkot, supervisors sought to expand the square out side the sacred wall.
The square can currently fit 45 thousand people.
Seventy thousand people attended Monday’s Priestly Blessing which took place at the Western Wall, but police were forced to close the gates.
Recently, a request to remove the Mugrabi ramp was approved. This would make room for an additional 5,000 worshippers.
Western Wall Rabbi Shmuel Rabinovitch said he would begin looking for more ways of expanded the square after the holidays.
