Iranian FM: West’s psychological war on Iran failing
Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki claims that in past month Tehran signed multiple deals with foreign countries despite sanctions imposed upon Iran; ‘This proves psychological war waged by West on Iran is failing’, Mottaki declares
Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki claimed that over the past month his nation signed multiple deals with foreign countries, worth over USD 33 billion, despite sanctions imposed upon Iran.
During a speech at Tehran University, Mottaki said this was proof the "psychological war" waged by the West on Iran was failing.
“The West is trying to ‘impose’ its problems on other countries. But despite their efforts, most of the world supports Iran’s position,” Mottaki was quoted by the Iranian news agency Fars.
Mottaki attempted to persuade his audience of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s successes: “We are trying to devote special attention to various places in the world, which up until now have not enjoyed a relationship with Iran. Many African countries have turned to us to help them find fuel reserves in their territories. Likewise, we signed a substantial deal with Venezuela.”
“In the past 40 days, we signed countless deals with different countries. These include building a subterranean power station, and various fuel and gas projects,” the Iranian minister added.
Mottaki stressed that Iran had no intentions of suspending its nuclear program and would remain steadfast in its stance in the face of Western pressures.
Meanwhile, however, a senior Iranian official told foreign news agencies that Tehran had agreed to ease its position and allowed United Nations inspectors install surveillance cameras at the nuclear facility in Natanz.
According to the official, speaking on condition anonymity because he was not authorized to give statements to media, the video cameras were mounted over the past few days. This contradicts reports from Vienna diplomats, who claimed that Iran barred the UN inspectors from setting up cameras.
The Iranian official further denied reports that Iran had installed 3,000 new centrifuges at the underground plant. “We have not yet started,” he said.
