The family car was pulled over by Palestinian police officers. The couple alerted the Israeli police and 20 minutes later, they were joined by an Israeli police car, which escorted them back to safety.
"We were going to drive to Tiberias through the Jericho bypass road. We turned left at Almog junction and saw a checkpoint… the soldiers asked us where we were from, we told them we were from Jerusalem and they let us through," Liat Dror told Ynet.
"After about 600 feet we saw Palestinian policemen, three in uniform and two others in plain clothes," she added.
The Palestinian policemen, said Dror, were very surprised to see an Israeli car (recognizable by its yellow license plate) coming towards them, pulled them over and asked them where were they from and where were they headed. "It was nerve-racking," she said.
At this point, the Dror's called Israeli police, asking the officer who took the call to stay on the line with them. "The Palestinian policeman asked for our IDs and wanted my husband to get out of the car, but I wouldn’t let him.
"I told the Israeli policeman on the phone that we were afraid for our lives, and asked him to send someone for us as soon as possible" she added.
Twenty long minutes later, IDF troops and civil administration officials met the Dror's at the checkpoint.
"The Palestinian policemen led us back to the checkpoint and told us to stay put. Then the Israeli police came and it was finally over," said Dror.
The Israeli policemen escorted the Dror family back to the road leading to Tiberias and sent them on their way.
