Twenty-nine settlers, most of them youths, were arrested on Wednesday for staging an illegal protest outside the home of Major-General Gadi Shamni, GOC of IDF Central Command, in Maccabim-Re'ut.
The demonstrators were protesting an order issued by Shamni, prohibiting three right-wing activists from entering the Palestinian territories.
The protests began Tuesday evening, at which time police apprehended nine of the demonstrators and released them after a round of questioning. On Wednesday the protestors arrived once more, without police approval, and with whistles in tow.
Police forces alerted to the scene proceeded to arrest 29 protestors, among them 21 youths. Two of those apprehended are also suspected of assaulting a police officer.
Settler protests are a common occurrence on the IDF Major-General's street. The previous demonstration took place several months ago, also in front of his home.
