The Israeli sports channel, Sport 5 Gold, and the Israeli Football Players' Association (IFPA) have decided to follow in the United States footsteps and create Israel's first ever "hall of fame," dedicated to Israeli soccer players.
The endeavor's organizers are currently looking at the history of Israeli soccer with the purpose of choosing the country's 40 greatest players so far.
Taking part in the selection process will be a panel of judges made out Sport 5 Gold and IFPA figures, as well as the channel's viewers.
Panel members are said to include Dan Shilon, Motti Kirshenbaum, Emanuel Rosen, Amnon Abramovitch, Yoram Arbel, Gavri Levi and several other prominent figures of sports television.
The channel will carry a special broadcast every Thursday, made to present the viewers with the "candidates." The list will also be available on the channel's website.
Famed soccer players the likes of Mordechai Spiegler and the late Yaacov Hodorov are sure to find their way to being among the hall's first members.
The IFPA will also undertake advancing the physical construction of the hall, in hopes of making it a future public attraction.
"The Sports Hall of Fame is a worthy and important project, aimed at giving out great footballers their rightful place in Israeli soccer history," said Avi Bar, CEO of Sport 5. "I hope it can be extended to other cultural areas."
Sources in the music industry applauded the initiative, saying they too hope to see similar halls created to honor various figures of culture.
