Rightists plan 11 new outposts in 2 days

Land of Israel Faithful members say will mimic 'Judaization of Negev in 1946' during Mitchell's visit to region this week; Yesh Din looking to thwart plan

Members of the Land of Israel Faithful movement announced their plan to set up 11 new outposts in the West Bank in the coming week in what they say will be an attempt to mimic "that night in 1946 when the Jewish community established 11 new positions in the Negev ahead of the land's partition."

In recent days rightist organizations have been distributing pamphlets calling on activists to erect new outposts on Monday and Tuesday, while US Mideast envoy George Mitchell is touring the region.

The pamphlet says activists must act like the pioneers who tried to Judaize certain areas after the UN called to divide the Mandate of Palestine into two provisional states, one Jewish and one Arab. The partition plan was never implemented.

"Only the establishment of settlements will put the State of Israel back on the track of independence and growth, and will create national resilience in the face of international pressure," the pamphlet reads.

Attorney Michael Sfard, legal advisor to Yesh Din, says the leftist organization plans to call on Israel Police and the army to thwart the "loyalists" plan to set up new West Bank outposts.

"The leaflet indicates an intention to break the law in an organized manner," says the attorney.

An activist from the Land of Israel Youth organization told Ynet that the plan to erect 11 new outposts is aimed at "expanding the Jewish settlement in Judea and Samaria (West Bank) and to uphold the Zionist values that were realized during that operation in the Negev (in 1946)."
